How Can I Help?
First of all, thank you for asking...
Center for Possibilities relies on the generosity of many donors and supporters and caring and dedicated volunteers. Volunteers are an important part of our programs and critical to our success in serving children and adults with developmental disabilities. From teaching someone to tie their shoes or button their coat, to helping a student with their art project or playing with a student on the playground - we rely on the time and talents of our volunteers to help our students develop new skills!
There are countless ways you can help make a difference in the lives of children and adults with developmental disabilities. We are currently looking for volunteers for the following positions:
Self Help Coach- to teach adults and children to put on and tie their shoes, brush their teeth, comb their hair and put on and button their coat. 3-5 times a week for 1-2 hours.
Daily Living Coach- to teach adults to set a table, vacum and sweep and floor and wash, dry and fold laundry. 1-2 times a week for 1-2 hours.
Sign Language Coach- to teach adults and children basic sign language. 2-3 times a week for 1-2 hours.
Preschool Volunteer- to help our preschool and toddlers students during art, music, play time and outside time. 2-5 times a week for 3 hours.
Playground and Garden Clean Up- to clean and maintain our playground and gardens. 1 time a week for 2-3 hours.
Sewing Volunteers- to make adult size bibs, cooking aprons and other projects. As needed.
Talent Volunteers- to provide cultural and recreational experiences for our adult and preschool students including musicians, performers, dancers, magicians and other talents. As scheduled.
Science Volunteers- to provide science project and experiences for our preschool and adult students. 1 time a week for 30 minutes.
Reading Volunteers- to read to preschool and adult students and engage them in conversation about the story. 1-2 times a week for 30 minutes.
Kitchen Volunteers- to help with meal preparation and clean up. 5 times a week for 4 hours each day.
In addition, we are also looking for volunteers to present on the following topics:
Vision guide/companion dog
Weather
Basket weaving
Native American history and culture
